This was a special asset for our team!
The concept made by our Head of Art, Dan Cocina, served (up until recently) as the art test used in our environment department hiring process.
As a test it was a great way of assessing an artist's ability to model both hard surface and soft surface geometries, while also going through most common materials found in environment art creation (various metals , wood and stone).
In early 2019 we wanted to push it a bit further and recreate it inhouse as an environment prop benchmark for the year, so we assigned it to our Environment Art Lead, Dragos Casian.
A material study from highres sculpt to finished textures while also using proper mesh optimizations for the game-ready model (around 20k tris).
Careful thought was given to the silhouette of the object and how all the different assets merge together into forming the crudely assembled look of the throne.
